Products Description

Lactitol is a disaccharide sugar alcohol synthesized from lactose via selective reduction of the glucose unit. It does not occur naturally and offers approximaleic-anhydride.html">mately 40% of the sweetness of sucrose. In vitro tests using enzyme mixtures with galactosidase show that lactitol is hydrolyzed extremely slowly. Tests with human intestinal biopsy specimens confirm that human intestinal mucosa shows almost no disaccharidase activity toward lactitol. Hydrolytic rates for lactitol and isomalt are just 1.3% of those for lactose and isomaltulose, respectively. Parallel tests using intestinal preparations from germ‑free and conventional pigs show comparable outcomes. These findings confirm lactitol as the most slowly digested disaccharide sugar alcohol.Lactitol
