Trimethylolpropane (TMP) is chemically identified as 2-ethyl-2-hydroxymethyl-1,3-propanediol, also known as trimethylol propane and 2,2-dihydroxymethylbutanol. It has three characteristic hydroxymethyl groups in its molecule, giving it polyol properties similar to glycerol. It can react with organic acids to form monoesters or polyesters, react with aldehydes/ketones to produce acetals and ketals, and react with diisocyanate to generate carbamates. As a widely used chemical raw material, it is mainly applied in alkyd resins, polyurethanes, unsaturated resins, polyester resins and coatings. It is also used to synthesize aviation lubricants, plasticizers, surfactants, wetting agents, explosives and printing inks. Additionally, it can be directly used as textile auxiliaries and heat stabilizers for PVC resins.
