Anthracene is a tricyclic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon with the formula C14H10. It is naturally present in coal tar. The three aromatic rings are linearly fused, making it an isomer of phenanthrene. It appears as white flakes or pale yellow needles with faint blue fluorescence. It sublimes readily, is insoluble in water, sparingly soluble in ethanol and diethyl ether, and soluble in hot benzene.Anthracene
