Product Details

4-Morpholineethanesulfonic acid CAS#4432-31-9
MES ranks among the classic Good’s buffers and is among the most widely applied biological buffering agents. Classed as a zwitterionic N-substituted aminosulfonic acid with a morpholine ring structure, MES shows little to no tendency to form complexes with most metal ions employed in environmental and biological research. It dissolves readily in water, displays very low lipid solubility, and does not cross biological membranes.4-Morpholineethanesulfonic acid

Product Application

4-Morpholineethanesulfonic acid (MES) belongs to the group of Good’s buffers and is widely utilized as a biological buffer. MES is a zwitterionic N-substituted aminosulfonic acid containing a morpholine ring; it does not form complexes with most metals used in environmental and biological investigations. It is highly soluble in water with minimal lipid solubility, so it does not pass through cell membranes. MES also serves in elution buffers for recovering plasma from α2-macroglobulin affinity columns. It is used as an activation buffer in antibody conjugation to microparticles and in microchannel functionalization for building microfluidic-integrated surface plasmon resonance (SPR) platforms used in pathogen detection.
