Product Details
DL-Tartaric acid is a colorless crystalline solid that dissolves in water and alcohol, featuring a typical sour taste with a melting point of about 170°C (338°F). Naturally occurring tartaric acid usually exists in L-configuration based on the absolute structure of D-glyceric acid. L-tartrate solutions are dextrorotatory, so they are named L(+)-tartrates. It is also called dihydroxy succinic acid. DL-Tartaric acid is widely used as a chemical intermediate and sequestrant, and applied in tanning, effervescent drinks, baking powders, ceramics, photography, textiles, mirror silvering, and metal coloring.

Product Application
DL-Tartaric acid acts as an antioxidant synergist, emulsifier, sequestrant, and flavor enhancer. It is often blended with citric acid to make effervescent salts to improve the flavor of oral medicines. It is also used in pigments, processing aids, inks, toners, and colorants. It serves as a chelator in metal and agricultural industries. In addition, it functions as a lubricant and grease. When mixed with sodium bicarbonate, it works as a leavening agent in food production. In pharmaceuticals, it is used to synthesize tartar emetic, an expectorant in cough syrups.
