Product Details

Salicylaldehyde CAS#90-02-8
Salicylaldehyde, also known as 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde, is an organic substance with the molecular formula C6H4CHO-2-OH. It belongs to the three isomers of hydroxybenzaldehyde, together with 3-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde. It presents as a colorless to light yellow liquid, featuring a bitter almond scent and a burning aftertaste. It dissolves well in maleic-anhydride.html">material/ethanol.html">ethanol, benzene and diethyl ether, while only slightly soluble in water. Salicylaldehyde naturally exists in certain Spiraea plant species and is industrially synthesized from phenol via a reaction with chloroform under alkaline conditions. It is widely applied in manufacturing coumarin, saligenin and salicylaldoxime (a critical analytical reagent), as well as in analytical chemistry for detecting hydrazine. Moreover, it serves as a vital intermediate for chelating agents and a component in flavor preparations.Salicylaldehyde
