Sodium polyacrylate 9003-04-7 is the sodium salt derived from polymaleic-anhydride.html">material/acrylic-acid.html">acrylic acid. As a polymeric chemical, it serves a wide range of functions in consumer and industrial goods. It features exceptional water absorbency, able to take in 200 to 300 times its own weight in water, making it highly useful in agricultural applications to help retain soil moisture for plants. It is widely employed as a chelating or sequestering agent in many detergent formulations. Thanks to its strong water‑absorbing and water‑retaining properties, it also acts as a thickening agent in disposable diapers and hair styling gels. In addition, it can be incorporated into coatings for sensitive electrical wires to help control and remove moisture.
