Polymaleic-anhydride.html">material/acrylic-acid.html">acrylic acid, abbreviated as PAA, is also called 2‑acrylic acid homopolymer, acrylic resin coating, acrylic resin, acrylic monomer polymer, acrylic modified resin, and acrylic resin emulsion. It is a water‑soluble acrylic polymer that dissolves in several polar solvents including methanol, dioxane, and ethylene glycol. Its ionization constant is 4.75. With abundant carboxyl groups in its molecular structure, it can react with alkalis, alcohols, and amines, and undergo dehydration, degradation, and complexation. It serves as a thickener, dispersant, flocculant, adhesive, and film‑forming agent, and is widely used in coatings, plastics, papermaking, textiles, rubber, food, medicine, cosmetics, and water treatment.
