Product Details
Methanesulfonic acid CAS#75-75-2
Methanesulfonic acid (CH3SO3H, MSA) is a strong organic acid. It is largely formed through the chemical oxidation of dimethyl sulfide in the atmosphere. MSA can biodegrade into carbon dioxide and sulfate, maleic-anhydride.html">making it a green acid with lower toxicity and less corrosiveness than common mineral acids. Aqueous MSA solution is often used as a model electrolyte in electrochemical processes.
Methanesulfonic acid is an alkanesulfonic acid in which a methyl group is directly attached to the sulfo group. It functions as a metabolite in Escherichia coli. It is classified as an alkanesulfonic acid and a one-carbon compound, and it serves as the conjugate acid of methanesulfonate.

Product Application Of Methanesulfonic acid CAS#75-75-2
Methanesulfonic acid acts as a catalyst in esterification, alkylation and condensation reactions because of its low volatility and good solubility in organic solvents. It is used in manufacturing starch esters, wax oxidate esters, benzoic acid esters, phenolic esters and alkyl esters. It reacts with sodium borohydride in tetrahydrofuran to prepare borane-tetrahydrofuran complex.
It is used in batteries due to its high purity and lack of chloride. In the pharmaceutical industry, it helps produce active pharmaceutical ingredients such as telmisartan and eprosartan. It is applied in ion chromatography and provides carbon and energy for some gram-negative methylotropic bacteria. It also takes part in peptide deprotection.
