Product Application
Glutaraldehyde also known as GTA glutaric dialdehyde 1,5-pentanedial glutaral is widely used in the medical sector for cold sterilization and in X-ray processing. It serves as a tanning agent in leather manufacturing and is used in mortuary operations. No natural sources of glutaraldehyde have been reported. Products such as Cidex and Acusol which are 2% buffered solutions use this aldehyde as their active component. Sodium bicarbonate is used to activate these solutions with a usable shelf life of 1 to 2 weeks. Although it poses certain health risks glutaraldehyde remains one of the most efficient biocides available. It shows strong efficacy against bacteria and viruses including HIV.
