Mangiferin is a naturally occurring plant polyphenol featuring a C-glycosylxanthone chemical structure, and it possesses a wide spectrum of biological and pharmacological activities. It can be isolated from numerous plant species, with mango (Mangifera indica) being one of the main sources. This compound also exists in several medicinal herbs, contributing to their health-beneficial and preventive effects, as well as in honeybush (Cyclopia sp.), a well-known herbal tea from South Africa. Mangiferin exhibits good water solubility, allowing for simple extraction via infusions and decoctions. Four aromatic hydroxyl groups in its molecular structure endow mangiferin with powerful free radical scavenging and antioxidant capabilities. Additionally, it acts as an effective iron chelator, thereby inhibiting the formation of hydroxyl radicals in Fenton-type reactions.

Product Application of Mangiferin CAS#4773-96-0

Mangiferin belongs to the xanthonoid class of chemical compounds, which can be found in mangoes and Anemarrhena asphodeloides rhizomes. It shows hepatoprotective and choleretic activities and is used in the treatment of hepatitis. Mangiferin also demonstrates anti‑inflammatory, antiviral, central nervous system inhibitory, and immunosuppressive effects. It has therapeutic benefits for chronic bronchitis. In addition, mangiferin exerts cytotoxic activity against hepatocellular carcinoma cells and can induce cell apoptosis. It also provides antioxidant effects and helps to delay the aging process.
