Products Description

Paraformaldehyde is a white solid with a faint pungent odor. It is a linear polymer of formaldehyde with the structural formula HO(CH2-O)xH, where the average value of x is about 30. Polymers with a value of x less than 12 are soluble in water, while those with higher molecular weights are not immediately soluble. It dissolves slowly in water via hydrolysis to form shorter polymer chains. It is flammable but may be difficult to ignite, with a flash point of 158 °F. It is widely used in the production of fungicides, bactericides and adhesives. This compound is harmful to the ecological environment, so immediate measures should be taken to prevent its release into the environment.Paraformaldehyde

Product Application

Paraformaldehyde is used as a fumigant and disinfectant, and serves as an important raw material for manufacturing synthetic resins such as melamine resin, phenolic resin and polyacetal resin. It is also applied in cell culture experiments and used as a fixative in electron microscopy. Moreover, it is employed to prepare formalin fixatives for biological tissues and cells. For fixation purposes, paraformaldehyde must be heated to convert into monomeric formaldehyde, which acts as the effective component for tissue fixation.
