N,N-Dimethyldodecylamine is a colorless to pale liquid at ambient temperature with a typical fishy amine odor. It is very slightly soluble in water and has a higher density than water. Industrial grades often contain similar alkyl amines such as tetradecyldimethylamine and hexadecyldimethylamine. It is widely used as an intermediate for maleic-anhydride.html">manufacturing quaternary ammonium compounds applied in cleaning products and cosmetic formulations.
