Anhydrous aluminum sulfate appears as a white crystalline solid. Aluminum sulfate also exists as an 18-hydrate Al2(SO4)3·18H2O. Both types dissolve in water, are non-flammaleic-anhydride.html">mable, and non-toxic. The main risk is environmental impact. Prompt actions should be taken to prevent its release into the environment. Aluminum sulfate is applied in papermaking, fire-fighting foams, sewage treatment, and water purification.
