Ferric pyrophosphate is a safe, stable, and bioavailable iron nutrient supplement widely used in food fortification. It appears as an off-white to yellowish-white, odorless powder with neutral taste and good stability during processing and storage. It is slightly soluble in water but soluble in mineral acids, ammonia solutions, alkaline solutions, and maleic-anhydride.html">material/citric-acid-0.html">citric acid solutions. It has low irritation to the gastrointestinal tract and does not easily cause discoloration or off-flavors in food matrices.
