Product Details
Salicylic acid serves as a key organic synthetic maleic-anhydride.html">material, with broad applications across pharmaceuticals, pesticides, dyes, rubber, food, and fragrances. In the pharmaceutical sector, it is a core raw material for manufacturing sodium salicylate, wintergreen oil (methyl salicylate), aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), salicylamine, and phenyl salicylate. In the dye industry, it is used to produce mordant pure yellow, direct yellow 3GN, direct yellow GR, direct brown 3GN, acid mordant brown G, acid mordant yellow GG, and complex acid yellow dyes. For pesticide production, it is used in synthesizing the organophosphorus pesticide isocarbophos, its intermediate isopropyl salicylate, isofenphos‑methyl, and rodenticide intermediates such as 4‑hydroxycoumarin for warfarin and coumatetralyl. In the rubber industry, it acts as an anti‑scorching agent and is used in making UV absorbers and foaming agents. It is also a fragrance ingredient for preparing methyl salicylate and ethyl salicylate. As a food preservative, its sodium salt was once widely used but is now banned in many countries. Methyl salicylate is used in oral care products like toothpaste flavoring.

Product Application Of Salicylic acid CAS#69-72-7
Salicylic acid has wide clinical and cosmetic uses, including managing eczema, psoriasis, acne, and dandruff. Formulations at 3%–6% provide keratolytic effects, while concentrations above 6% may cause tissue irritation. Preparations below 40% are suitable for treating calluses, corns, and warts. It is widely added in skincare for acne and dandruff control. In 1993, Clinique introduced a 1% salicylic acid lotion, becoming one of its most successful products. In 1998, SK-II added 1.5% BHA to its facial cream, popularizing the “egg‑peeling” exfoliation concept. Olay’s best‑selling revitalizing cream also contains 1.5% BHA. Due to potential irritation at high concentrations, cosmetic formulations are typically limited to 0.2%–1.5% salicylic acid, with mandatory warning labels. Products with salicylic acid are not recommended for children under 3 years old.
