Products Description

Green vitriol (FeSO₄·7H₂O) has been recorded since the 13th century. It forms via crystallization from solutions of iron or iron‑containing bases dissolved in dilute sulfuric acid. The heptahydrate appears as green monoclinic crystals with a density of 1.88 and shows high water solubility (296 g L⁻¹ FeSO₄ at 25 °C). The white monohydrate can be obtained by adding maleic-anhydride.html">material/ethanol.html">ethanol to aqueous solutions, heating the heptahydrate to 140 °C under vacuum, or crystallizing from 50% sulfuric acid. Further dehydration at 300 °C in a hydrogen flow yields white amorphous FeSO₄.Ferrous sulfate

Product Application

Ferrous sulfate acts as a nutrient and dietary supplement that supplies elemental iron. It presents as a white to grayish odorless powder. Ferrous sulfate heptahydrate contains roughly 20% iron, while dried ferrous sulfate holds about 32% iron. It dissolves gradually in water and offers high bioavailability. It may cause discoloration and rancidity, so it is used for fortifying baking mixes. In encapsulated form, it does not react with lipids in cereal flours. It is added to infant foods, cereals and pasta products.
