2-Ethylhexanol is widely referred to as octanol in the plasticizer industry and serves as a vital chemical raw material. Besides manufacturing plasticizers, it is applied in producing octyl acrylate and acting as surfactants. Its primary uses include synthesizing dioctyl phthalate (DOP), dioctyl adipate (DOA), trioctyl trimellitate (TOTM), and other plasticizers, as well as octyl acrylate, surfactants, lubricating oil additives, mining agents, diesel additives, solvents and formulations, rust inhibitors, and other chemical products. On its own, octanol functions as an efficient solvent, defoamer, dispersant, and lubricant. Its major downstream products are plasticizers like DOP and octyl acrylate. DOP produced from octanol is the primary plasticizer for PVC, with PVC-related applications accounting for roughly 95% of total DOP consumption.

Product Application of 2-Ethylhexanol CAS#104-76-7
2-Ethyl-1-hexanol is suitable for studies comparing its dynamic heat capacity and dielectric polarization behavior under isothermal conditions. It can be used to investigate lipase-catalyzed transesterification (alcoholysis) of rapeseed oil with 2-ethyl-1-hexanol under solvent-free conditions. It may also be applied in broadband dielectric spectroscopy research of polyalcohols such as glycerol, xylitol, and sorbitol. Additionally, it can be utilized in the preparation of porous bead materials.
